Trifecta 2010- Triple West Linndy

In the movie “Back to School,” Rodney Dangerfield successfully performs a ‘Triple Lindy;’ an impossible dive that only a man devoted to the success of his son (and male libido) could accomplish.

This year at West Linn Skatepark, the second leg in the yearly Trifecta Bowl Series, skateboarding competitors bravely attempted the “Triple West Linndy;” an interpretation of Dangerfield’s legendary stunt, complete with female attention, intense competition and rigorous armpit farting.

Fans of all ages came out to take part. By far the youngest was Molly Quan’s baby who reportedly recently attempted her own Triple Linndy while in the birth canal.

Female fans weren’t only rallying support, many took part in the day’s athleticism. I missed attempts at the Triple FeLinndy, but by all accounts, they were quite impressive.

The place was packed; people were oiled up, and the atmosphere was anything but bashful. Everyone was waiting to see who would be the next to graduate with straight ‘D’s (and one ‘A’.)

Old School Triple Linndy master Jeff Taylor made some attempts. However, he was wearing excessive clothing which reduced his aerodynamic prowess. Next year shave your legs Jeff!

This guy got the intense facial expressionism right, but lost points on technicalities.

Crusty Mike, on the other hand, successfully pulled off his own interpretation of the Triple West Lindy, in the parking lot into a 24oz can of PBR.

Finally, young Greyson Fletcher stepped to the plate. Son of the great Christian Fletcher, today Greyson would attempt what his father accomplished at the legendary Linndystock of 1994.

The crowd went crazy. Young Greyson successfully performed the first Triple West Linndy in history. Congrats to Greyson, the student has officially become the master.

All these people were drunk.

Letter to the Editor 1.0

For reasons explained below, this review of Hot Tub Time Machine, a film that I haven’t seen – but have been eager to – really pissed me off. I haven’t been having much luck getting my letters to the editor published lately, but I’ll keep you updated on this one.

Dear Mercury,

You might want to consider hiring someone to review movies that understands satire. Not only did Ned Lannamann’s overtly negative review of Hot Tub Time Machine make me want to see the movie even more, it made your consistently amusing paper appear smug and obtuse, like, “ooh I’m soooo smaaaaart, I only like comedies that feature ironic muuuuuustaches…cause I’m a hiiiipsssttteeerrr.”

The best thing about this review, and I’m sure Ned’s “piece de resistance” is in the subhead, “Fetid Whirlpool.” Ooohhh “fetid,” -smart-guy word….Where’d you dream that one up Ned? MAYBE IN THE BODY OF YOUR REVIEW? In my opinion, using a hoity-toity adjective like “fetid” no one, but TWO times, has got to be twice as tacky as Craig Robinson’s Black-eyed spoof of Michael J Fox’s classic BTTF guitar scene- which sounds HILARIOUS.

Let’s move on to where you say “this movie rips off Back to the Future (blah blah) …badly fails to be one-hundredth as funny…” Imdb classifies “Back to the Future” as an Adventure/Family/Comedy which in itself is a testament to your sense of humor. Have you ever even SEEN Joe Dirt- the best comedy of all time? Were you even born when Spinal Tap came out? I have been looking forward to seeing Hot Tub Time Machine (yes Ned, the title is genius however I’m sure not the films best joke) since I heard about it, and will be the first one in the ticket line. Jon Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, throwbacks to Better off Dead and Back to the Future… sounds like a real recipe for successful satire and old-fashioned fun. Please assign Ned more Wes Anderson movies and whatever the guy/gal that made “The Notebook” comes up with next and leave the comedies for people who actually like to laugh at shit.

Letter To Dave Carnie

Somehow, through Facebook (I wonder how many sentences start with that) A “Ask Dave Carnie a Question” link popped up this morning. Through Skateboarder Magazine, I’m pretty sure. Here is the letter I wrote.

Hi Dave,
I was a huge fan of yours as a young raggedy kid. Big Brother was the only magazine I have ever waited for in anticipation and read cover to cover. Inspired by you (and my Pop too) I now work as a writer.
When I was about 18 I lived in a big skate house with a bunch of dudes. Nicole Zuck and I (well she was in on it) wrote you a fan letter. It was all “you should come to Ashland” or something like that. Well, the dudes found it and apparently this guy Jim Ratzman sent it in. When I found out, we were at the bar and I slapped him right in the face. This was like, 12 years ago or something. Well, I was wondering, did you ever get it? Or was that slap-in-the-face grossly unfounded?

Dirty Mittens @ Mississippi Studios 1 year RE-opening Party

Chelsea asked me to take pics of her band, Dirty Mittens the other day. It was a hectic night beforehand, so in my rush to get there, I grabbed 4 new AA batteries for my flash and threw them in my bag. To my dismay, upon our arrival I found them rolling around amongst old ones in the bottom of my bag.
